Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park is a small but incredibly diverse wildlife destination located at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment in northern Tanzania. The park is famous for its scenic beauty, featuring lush groundwater forests, open grasslands, acacia woodlands, and the alkaline lake that covers a large portion of the park. This unique ecosystem supports a wide variety of wildlife and offers visitors spectacular landscapes and excellent opportunities for photography.

The park is particularly well known for its legendary tree-climbing lions and large troops of baboons that can often be seen near the forest areas. Visitors can also encounter elephants, giraffes, hippos, zebras, and numerous antelope species. Lake Manyara is also a paradise for bird lovers, with thousands of flamingos and over 400 bird species recorded. Its compact size makes it ideal for a short but rewarding safari experience while exploring the northern circuit from Arusha. 🦩🌿

Lake Manyara National Park is located about 125 kilometers from Arusha, and the drive takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours by road. The park can also be accessed by small charter flights to the nearby Manyara Airstrip from airports within northern Tanzania.

Temperatures in the park are generally warm throughout the year. Daytime temperatures typically range from 23°C to 30°C (73°F–86°F), while evenings and early mornings are usually cooler.

The park experiences two rainy seasons. The long rains occur from March to May, while the short rains usually fall between November and early December. During the rainy season, the park becomes lush and green, creating beautiful scenery and excellent birdwatching opportunities.
