-The Great Migration is one of the most spectacular wildlife events on Earth and Tanzania is the heart of it.
- What is the Great Migration?
It’s the annual movement of over 2 million animals, mostly:
- Wildebeest (gnus) – about 1.5 million
- Zebras – hundreds of thousands
- Gazelles – in the thousands
- Followed by: lions, hyenas, cheetahs, crocodiles, and more.
- They migrate in a circular route through Serengeti (Tanzania) and Maasai Mara (Kenya) in search of fresh grass and water.
–Peak Event: Mara River crossings (July–Sept). This is where you will witness dramatic scenes of thousands of wildebeest leaping into crocodile filled waters.
-Where to See It in Tanzania
- Serengeti National Park – Core of the migration route.
- Ngorongoro Conservation Area (Ndutu) – Ideal for calving season.
- Grumeti Reserve – Great for fewer crowds during river crossings.
